田中訥言 Tanaka Totsugen (1767-1823)
Painter of the late Edo period. Born in Aichi Prefecture. Studied under Tosa Mitsusada in Kyoto. Studied the techniques of the Tosa school and attempted to restore the Yamato-e of the Heian and Kamakura periods. He became the founder of the Restoration of Yamato-e school. Late in life, he lost his eyesight and committed suicide in agony.
