The forest and mountain patterns are made by pressing actual tree leaves against them.

藤井朱明 Fujii Shumei (1936-2017)
Born in Arita in 1936, he began making pottery at the age of 15. He was selected for the Nitten for the first time in 1937, and has been selected 15 times since then. In 1949, he opened the Shumei Kiln. He uses the technique of using leaves of trees in his underglaze blue pottery to depict the seasonal scenery of Arita.
