Artist details:
1900~1988. Yamada Mumon was a Rinzai school roshi, calligrapher, and former abbot of Shofuku-ji in Kobe, Japan. Mumon was also the former head of the Myoshin-ji branch of the Rinzai school of Japan. His most prominent student (and Dharma heir) is Harada Shodo of Sogen-ji, an influential master in both Japan and the United States.

梅開五福 Ume Gofukuwo Hiraku
梅 means Ume plum tree, 開 means to blossom, 五福 means five happiness like longevity, wealth, good health, virtue, to live out one's life. Ume flower has 5 petals. It shows when ume flower blossoms, the five happiness comes in the world. This is also a Zen word that hopes for the happiness of the world.
