山本梅荘 Yamamoto Baiso (1846-1921)
Japanese Painter of Meiji and Taisho Period Born in Aichi Prefecture. Studied Nanga painting under Nukina Kaioku and Mitani Setsuen. He also studied ancient Chinese painting by himself and excelled in Sansui landscapes, flowers, and birds. At the time, there was no one who could compare to Baiso in the field of southern school of Chinese painting ink painting. Along with Yoshitsugu Haizan and Kodama Katei, he was known as one of the three greatest Nanga artists in the local regions.
