This scroll comes with an appraised box by 矢野橋村 Yano Kyoson (1890-1965).

山本梅逸 Yamamoto Baiitsu (1783-1856)
Nanga artist of the late Edo period. Born in Nagoya to a family of engravers. He first studied painting under 山田宮常 Yamada Kyujo (1747-1794), 張月樵 Cho Gessho (1765-1832). He and 中林竹洞 Nakabayashi Chikuto (1776-1853) studied painting under 神谷天遊 Kamiya Tenyu. He went to Kyoto to hone his painting skills. He excelled in flower-and-bird painting and Sansui landscape painting. His flower-and-bird paintings were especially well-received for the elegance and splendor of his coloring. In his later years, he returned to his hometown and became a painter in the Nagoya domain.

矢野橋村 Yano Kyoson (1890-1965)
Born in Ehime in 1890. Aspires to become a nanga artist and studies under Nagamatsu Shunyo, creating works with his right hand alone. Active in Bunten and solo exhibitions. In his later years, he was involved in the establishment of the Japan Nanga Academy.
