頼山陽 Rai Sanyo (1780-1832)
Classical Chinese poet and historian of the late Edo period. Son of the Rai Shunsui. He wrote "Nihon gaishi" ("History of Japan"). He also was good at poetry, calligraphy, and painting. He was friends with Okada Hanko, Uragami Shunkin, Sugai Baikan, Nakabayashi Chikudo, Aoki Mokubei, Nukina Kaioku, Tanomura Chikuden and others. He worked on producing poems, writings, and paintings throughout his life.
