Kutani ware is a type of pottery that originated in Kutani Village, Yamanaka-cho, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. As the name suggests, Kutaniyaki takes its name from the name of the place, Kutani Village, and from around the end of the Edo period it came to be known as Kutaniyaki.
