狩野正信 Kano Masanobu (1434-1530)
Muromachi period painter and founder of the Kano school. Son of Kano Kagenobu, a vassal of the Suruga Imagawa clan. Studied under 周文 Shubun and 如拙 Josetsu. Served two shoguns, Yoshimasa and Yoshinao, as an official painter of the Ashikaga Shogunate, and laid the foundations of the Kano school.
